Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Welcome to the Journal of Biological Convergence (JBC) — an open-access, peer-reviewed platform dedicated to fostering integrative and multidisciplinary research across the biological sciences. Authors are requested to carefully follow these guidelines before submitting their manuscripts. Submissions that do not conform may be returned for technical correction prior to review.

1. Scope and Relevance

JBC publishes original research, reviews, short communications, methodological notes, case studies, and perspectives that demonstrate biological convergence — the integration of concepts, tools, and data across disciplines to create new insights or applications.

Authors are encouraged to explicitly state in the Introduction or Conclusion how their study connects multiple levels of biology (molecular → cellular → ecological → technological) or integrates distinct scientific or engineering approaches.

2. Manuscript Types and Length

Type Description Word Limit (approx.)
Original Research Article Novel empirical or theoretical studies with significant interdisciplinary insight 4,000–6,000 words
Review Article Comprehensive synthesis of literature providing new integrative frameworks 5,000–8,000 words
Short Communication Concise reports of preliminary findings or innovations 1,500–2,500 words
Case Study / Applied Report Integration-focused real-world applications, policies, or biotechnological innovations 2,000–3,500 words
Methodological / Technical Note Description of innovative methods, tools, or cross-disciplinary techniques 2,000–3,500 words
Editorial / Commentary Opinion or conceptual articles on convergence in biology 1,000–2,000 words

3. Manuscript Structure

Title Page (separate file)

  • Title (concise, informative, reflecting convergence angle)

  • Author(s) full names, affiliations, ORCID IDs

  • Corresponding author contact details

  • Author contributions (following CRediT taxonomy)

Abstract

  • Maximum 250 words

  • Structured as: Background – Objectives – Methods – Results – Convergence Insight – Conclusion

  • Include 3–6 keywords that reflect both disciplinary and integrative aspects.

Main Text

  1. Introduction – Brief background, rationale, and explicit statement of the convergence dimension of the work.

  2. Materials and Methods – Sufficient detail for replication; interdisciplinary or hybrid methodologies should be clearly described.

  3. Results – Present key findings with appropriate statistical or computational support.

  4. Discussion – Highlight interdisciplinary synthesis, implications, and connections to other systems or scales.

  5. Conclusion – Emphasize the broader biological or societal convergence outcomes.

Acknowledgments

Include funding sources, institutional support, and non-author contributions.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare any financial or personal relationships that may influence the work.

4. Formatting Guidelines

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced

  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

  • Line numbering: Continuous throughout the manuscript

  • Figures/Tables: Include in-text placement indicators (e.g., [Insert Figure 1 here]) and upload high-resolution files separately

  • Units: Use SI units only

  • Abbreviations: Define upon first use

5. Reference Style

Use APA 7th Edition style (author–date citation).
All references must be accurate, complete, and preferably include DOIs.

In-text citations

  • One author: (Singh, 2023)

  • Two authors: (Singh & Sharma, 2022)

  • Three or more authors: (Singh et al., 2024)

6. Ethical Standards

JBC follows COPE, ICMJE, and WAME ethical guidelines.
Authors must:

  • Obtain approval from institutional ethics committees for human/animal research.

  • Ensure originality and avoid plagiarism, duplicate publication, or fabricated data.

  • Disclose all conflicts of interest and funding sources.

7. Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts.
Decisions (accept, revise, reject) are based on novelty, scientific rigor, and degree of interdisciplinary integration.
